Digital Footsteps into the 21st Century Classroom is an inspirational reading encouraging educators to step into a child’s world … the world of technology & music. This unique book shares techniques which make learning interactive through the integration of the iPod, SMART Board, document camera, digital photography, & videography. Classroom Management tips & numerous interactive websites are listed for today’s classroom. “As educational role models let us wake up and smell the Starbucks as we become enthusiastically willing to enter the world of a child through technology & music” The Net Generation of young people are born with an iPod in their ears and a cell phone in their pockets. The old saying, “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em holds true! We must refrain from “educational stagnation”. If we embrace students interests versus outlawing them, levels of achievement will increase! Are you aware that some universities are now requiring students to own an iPod Touch.
To truly reach a child we must be willing to step into his or her world… or we haven’t a chance!
I recently read an article on Ipods and ESL students in ESchool News. Ipods actually help students achieve success according to the author of the article. She mentioned a voice recorder that can be used on the IPod called Belking Tune. Students can then record themselves working on oral language skills and practice pronunciation of words. You can also record directions, read a test or even dictate exams. She did warn that Ipods have to be charged and she uses an Ipod cart to do that. By the way ESchool News is a great read about the newest technology and it has great ideas from the techy world.
Pretty cool post. I just came by your site and wanted to say
that I have really liked reading your blog posts. Any way
I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you post again soon!
Thanks for posting Lacy! Are you a teacher? Are you interested in implementing current tools of technology into your classroom? How did you find my website? It’s a new one.
Interesting Mendy! I’ll have to Google the Belking Tune! Technology doesn’t wait for us to catch up; does it? Always something new & different! We must make up our minds not to get overwhelmed with the constant changes and additions. Gotta just be willing to keep moving forward with baby steps, checking new items out as we get the opportunity! I’m going to check out the ESchool News today! Thanks for some valuable info!
All i can say is “AMAZING”! I absolutely loved this book. I read it in its entirety in one sitting. Mrs. Stover has captured the essence of teaching in a 21st century classroom. There are two portions that I just have to comment on. First, is the section on the document camera: I am a future educator and also a child of the digital age, so naturally I have been exposed to the document camera. However, in this book, some of the suggestions that Mrs. Stover gave, simply made the use of the document camera more appealing to me. I used to view it as simply a glorified overhead projector, but it is much more than that. It is a new window into the world of interactivity. Secondly, I am one of the biggest proponents for proper classroom management techniques that one could find. So naturally, I have to draw attention to the chapter in this book on classroom management, specifically the part about phone calls to parents. So often, parents dread that voicemail from the teacher, traditionally requesting a call back or a parent teacher meeting. I can only imagine how amazing it must be for parents to discover upon returning the call, that it is actually just to praise their child, and acclimate the parent to the teachers personality and classroom techniques. That in itself struck a chord with me and I too plan on doing the same for my future parents and students. Jerrilyn Stover has made teaching come alive to me once more. And for that I must offer up a hearty Thank you!
Thanks Karim,
You have what it takes to be a dynamic teacher! Thanks for taking seriously the idea of making those 2 crucial positive phone calls at the beginning of the school year. Those calls definitely help the school year to run more smoothly! It’s all about building genuine relationships with the families as well as your students! So glad you benefitted reading from Digital Footsteps into the 21st Century Classroom!
I love you, and you are right on top of success–please God!
Is the whole book on this site or just the cover? I presume you e-mailed her the whole book–correct.???
P.S. I did not know you had another book coming out about your teaching tricks–Right??? Love, Dad

Ms. Stover has taught 3 of my grandchildren (in Kindergarten), all siblings. This year she will be teaching the fourth and last child in the family. Past experience with Ms. Stover and her teaching skills have led to a wonderful relationship with her, the children, my daughter and husband (mom and dad). It is a great tribute to Ms. Stover that the relationship has extended to the grandparents. We are all delighted that Ms. Stover will teach all four of the Eubanks children.
To Ms. Stover – we all looknig forward to this year and the great things that we will hear about in your classroom. I am not a teacher but one who admires the profession very much. I also plan to buy you book – to learn more and because my grandchildren are included. Thank you so much! Terri Knox (Christie’s Mom)
Terri, you are too sweet! I have felt honored to have had the privilege of teaching your precious grandchildren! I look forward to getting to know little Riley this year! Would love to have you come volunteer in class anytime!
We are looking forward to reading your book. Thank you for taking such good care of my babies. They learned so much in that first year I couldn’t believe it. My son who didn’t even know the alphabet when he started KG was reading, writing and doing math when he was done. It was much easier leaving my youngest today knowing that she was in your hands. (she has never been to daycare, pre k or anything so this was really new to her).
So glad you feel like you are leaving your baby girl in good hands! She is precious! The year is off to a great start! Thanks for buying, Digital Footsteps into the 21st Century Classroom! Let me know what you think after you read it!
